On December 20, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia D. N. Medoev and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia I.B. Ardzinboy. Within the framework of conversations in a bilateral and trilateral format, it is envisaged to exchange views on key issues of Russia’s relations with these republics, foreign policy coordination and regional security.

Russia is linked with Abkhazia and South Ossetia by close allied relations, which have a solid legal basis and are not subject to conjuncture. In accordance with the line approved by the President of the Russian Federation, Russia provides the young states of the Transcaucasus with active assistance in the formation of modern democratic states, strengthening their international positions, ensuring reliable security and socio-economic development. The republics are provided with comprehensive assistance in combating COVID-19 and solving other urgent problems in various areas of interaction.

Dialogue at the level of heads of state is regular. Active interaction has been established within the framework of the Russian-Abkhaz and Russian-South Ossetian intergovernmental commissions on socio-economic cooperation, investment programs are being implemented to promote the socio-economic development of each of the republics for 2020-2022. Close contacts are maintained through the ministries of foreign affairs and other relevant departments, intensive exchanges are carried out on cultural, humanitarian and regional tracks.
