The crew of the rescue tugboat SB-742 of the Novorossiysk Naval Base (NVMB) of the Black Sea Fleet (Black Sea Fleet) returned to the basing point after completing missions in the Mediterranean Sea.

A crew welcoming ceremony was held at the dock of the naval base, during which awards from the Ministry of Defense were presented to members of the ship’s crew and gratitude was announced.

During a 6-month stay in the united group of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea, the SB-742 crew took part in two international naval exercises: “Joint naval maneuvers – 2021” with ships of the Naval Forces (Navy) of the Algerian People’s Democratic Republic and “Bridge of Friendship – 2021” with ships of the Navy of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

In the near future, the SB-742 crew will perform a set of post-cruise routine maintenance on the main mechanisms of the tug and will continue to carry out activities in accordance with the combat training plan of the Black Sea Fleet.


SBS SB-742 became part of the NVMB in December 2019 and is the fourth rescue tug of project 22870 built for the Black Sea Fleet.

The main purpose of the rescue tugboat is to tow and refloat ships and vessels, extinguish fires on damaged ships (ships) and onshore facilities, evacuate people and provide medical assistance to the injured, supply electricity to the emergency ship and keep it afloat, perform diving operations on depths up to 60 m, collecting oil products from the sea surface, as well as performing prospecting and survey work.
