The crews of the MiG-31BM high-altitude fighter-interceptors, the Su-34 multifunctional fighter-bombers and the Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft of the Central Military District (CVO) performed about 200 refueling from the Il-78 aircraft tanker during the exercise, which ended in the Chelyabinsk region.

Pilots of three types of aircraft performed double and single refueling day and night at an altitude of 4000 to 7000 meters. The crews performed the most difficult element of flight training at a speed of 600-700 km / h, approaching the tanker at a distance of up to 10 meters. During refueling, the MiG-31, Su-34 and Su-24MR pilots worked out interaction with the tanker commander, who controlled the flight speed and altitude, the distance between the aircraft and the sequence of approaches to the Il-78 aircraft tanker. Fuel transfer was carried out using special equipment: the boom of the refueled aircraft and the IL-78 cone-sensor.

In a two-week tactical flight exercise for refueling in the air, 13 units of aviation equipment were involved: an Il-78 refueling aircraft, MiG-31 fighter-interceptors, Su-34 fighter-bombers and Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft, as well as about 200 military personnel from among the flight, engineering and technical personnel, the control and flight support group.
