During the event, S. Stepashin handed over to the university library fund his dissertation on the topic “Party leadership of fire-fighting units in Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War.”

From the point of view of extinguishing fires, prevention and work with the population, this is a colossal and important work. I am glad that today our firefighters occupy a worthy place in the Emergencies Ministry of Russia. The authority of the department in our country is undeniable, ”said Sergei Stepashin.

After visiting the University of the State Fire Service, in the water area of ​​the Neva River near the walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress A. Serko, together with the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, took part in the review of the forces and means of the Emergency Situations Service and the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia, designed to ensure safety at the water bodies of the city in the winter, as well as units responding to incidents of a man-made nature and accidents of the housing and communal complex.

Welcoming the participants of the event, A. Serko noted: “Thanks to the support of the Government of St. Petersburg and the personal participation of Governor Alexander Dmitrievich Beglov, the fire and rescue units of the Northern capital are among the most equipped in our country.” He also congratulated the audience on the upcoming holidays and reminded that the rescuers face a special task during this period – to ensure the safety of the resting citizens.

Further, the ceremony of presenting fire-fighting and rescue equipment, which entered service with the St. Petersburg rescuers, took place. These are modern tank trucks, first aid fire trucks, operational service vehicles, as well as hovercraft that allow walking along the rivers and canals of the central part of the city and passing under bridges. In total, 18 pieces of equipment were handed over to the St. Petersburg rescuers.

Concluding the event, A. Serko expressed confidence that all emergency services of St. Petersburg are ready to perform tasks as intended.
