MIL OSI Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

In the conditions of a sharp drop in temperatures in a number of regions of the Russian Federation, the forces of the EMERCOM of Russia are put on high alert. Rescuers are ready to assist drivers and passengers of vehicles in difficult situations.

In order to notify the traffic situation in the fire and rescue garrisons, shortwave radio stations operating at the frequency of long-distance truck drivers are used.

Operational groups of fire and rescue garrisons of the Russian Emergencies Ministry are patrolling dangerous sections of federal highways. When information is received about traffic restrictions due to unfavorable weather or a traffic accident, task forces are sent to the area. One of the tasks is to provide assistance on the spot, as well as deliver, if necessary, drivers and passengers to the nearest heating points until the situation on the road stabilizes. On sections of routes where there are no cafes or gas stations nearby in the winter season, during severe frosts, snow drifts and ice, a mobile heating point is used and citizens can always count on the prompt help of rescuers.

The work of two such points has already been organized on dangerous sections of federal highways M-2 “Crimea”, M-4 “Don” in the Tula region and M-8 “Kholmogory” in the Yaroslavl region. Mobile points will operate around the clock. They include tents with stoves, power generators and light towers, and a field kitchen.

Also, the heating point is deployed in the area of the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint, where the drivers of 365 heavy trucks and 40 cars await the resumption of traffic on the Georgian Military Highway. In the area of the checkpoint, psychologists of the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for North Ossetia-Alania are working, traffic police officers and doctors are on duty. Drivers are being informed about the situation on the Georgian Military Highway. In addition, on the section from Vladikavkaz to the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint, there are 3 hotels with a total capacity of 80 beds, 6 stationary food outlets for 120 seats, 2 gas stations and 4 parking spaces with a total capacity of up to 500 vehicles.

The emergency department also recommends clarifying the situation to those who intend to go to South Ossetia. Due to the unfavorable forecast and the threat of avalanches, the movement of all types of transport on the Transcaucasian highway in both directions is prohibited until further notice.
