A solemn action was timed to coincide with the recent Day of Heroes of the Fatherland in Kurgan on the Alley of Glory near the stele “Zauraltsy – Heroes of the Soviet Union”.
To honor the memory of the heroes, representatives of the government of the Kurgan region, the city administration, the regional military registration and enlistment office, law enforcement agencies, the regional branch of DOSAAF, other public and veteran organizations, cadets, youth soldiers, schoolchildren have gathered here.
The participants of the commemorative event were greeted by the Deputy Governor of the Region for Social Policy Larisa Kokorina. Acting from the defense organization of the Trans-Urals chairman of the regional department of DOSAAF, reserve colonel Eduard Lobachev.
In his speech, he noted that among the heroes there are people connected by fate with the Kurgan region. They became an example not only for the youth of the Trans-Urals, but for the whole country: the first twice Heroes of the Soviet Union, aces pilots Grigory Kravchenko and Sergei Gritsevets, famous commanders Marshal of the Soviet Union Philip Golikov, Colonel General Mikhail Shumilov, Lieutenant General Fedor Katkov, General Major Grigory Krivolapov, Lieutenant General Alexander Cherepanov.
Over 75 thousand natives of the Kurgan region during the years of the Great Patriotic War were awarded military awards and orders for military exploits. 115 were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, 96 were awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, 12 were awarded the title of Hero of Russia, and 30 were holders of the Order of Glory.
The participants of the event honored with a minute of silence the memory of the Trans-Urals people who fell in battles and laid flowers at the stele “Trans-Urals – Heroes of the Soviet Union”, the Glory Memorial at the Eternal Flame, the monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union Colonel-General Mikhail Shumilov, and the bust of the Great Patriotic War soldier, the only one in the Kurgan Region the owner of five medals “For Courage” Maxim Zakharov.
