On the eve of the celebration of the 106th anniversary of the Day of the Air Defense Forces of the Ground Forces, servicemen of the air defense unit of the combined-arms formation of the Central Military District (CVO), stationed in the Altai Territory, fulfilled the childhood dream of a teenager with special needs in development.
Fifteen-year-old Sergey Vangunas wrote a letter to Santa Claus asking him to fulfill his dream – to visit a military unit and see real military equipment.
By decision of the commander of the Central Military District (CVO), Colonel-General Alexander Lapin Sergei was invited to an anti-aircraft missile brigade in the Altai Territory, armed with the latest anti-aircraft missile systems “Buk-M3”.
The boy was given an excursion around the military unit, showed the everyday life of the servicemen and took a ride on military equipment. Sergei was able to observe the course of the anti-aircraft gunners’ exercise to repel the air raid, during which the servicemen marched to the designated area, worked out the standards for the deployment of complexes, the detection of air targets, capture, escort and conditional destruction.
“We tried to immerse Sergei in the atmosphere of military service, showed him equipment, samples of weapons and gave him a ride on modern technology, and he himself tried to assemble and disassemble the machine gun. The team of the brigade is very happy that the boy was impressed by what he saw, and that we managed to fulfill his dream, ”said the deputy commander of the military unit, Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Brykin.
At the end of the event, so that it will be remembered for a long time, the servicemen presented the boy with memorable gifts, and also took pictures.
The event was held in strict compliance with anti-epidemic measures. All equipment underwent complete disinfection treatment by the forces of the RCB protection units.
