Moscow rescuers have at their disposal modern technology that allows them to help people at height and on the water, on busy roads and in hard-to-reach places.

Sergei Sobyanin congratulated the capital’s rescuers on their professional holiday and the upcoming New Year, and also noted their great contribution to the safety of Moscow and its citizens. He wrote about this on my blog.

“I sincerely join in the congratulations of the people of this courageous profession, who are serving in the largest city in Russia – Moscow,” wrote Sergei Sobyanin.

This year, 1,824 people were rescued by fires (in total since 2011 – 18 thousand people), at water bodies – 102 people (since 2011 – more than two thousand people), 362 people were evacuated with the help of medical aviation (since 2011 – more than 6 , 7 thousand people). From 2011 to 2021, it was possible to reduce the number of fatalities in fires by 35 percent and by 62 percent in water bodies.

In recent years, the Moscow Rescue Service is undergoing re-equipment. Specialists have at their disposal modern equipment that allows them to extinguish fires in tunnels and high-rise buildings, from the ground and from the air.

“The Cobra Rapid Response Vehicle is equipped with a waterjet cutting system, which allows it to punch through walls or roofs and extinguish fires right through them. To evacuate people from high-rise buildings, combined lifts with a height of 90 and 101 meters (30 floors) are used. The Spider compact telescopic lift helps to evacuate people from those buildings and structures that a fire engine with a ladder simply cannot reach, ”said Sergei Sobyanin.

Not only cars, but also rescuers on motorcycles leave for road accidents. Maneuverability and mobility allow them to quickly arrive at the scene and provide first aid. They can also call for reinforcements if necessary.

Another device at the disposal of rescuers is the Uzola snow and swamp-going vehicle, which is indispensable for delivering rescuers and equipment to hard-to-reach places when liquidating the consequences of floods and extinguishing forest fires. Also, the snow and swamp-going vehicle is used in the elimination of the consequences of accidents on railway, air and water transport. “With the addition of new territories, the use of this technique has become topical in Moscow as well,” said Sergei Sobyanin.

In addition, the fire and rescue teams use the more familiar Berkut and Taiga snowmobiles. And for extinguishing fires and liquidating oil spills, they can use the Colonel Chernyshev fire-fighting ship.

The fleet of rescue vessels has been renewed since 2017. Rescue boats “Nord Silver Pro”, as well as hovercrafts “Slavir” and “Jetter”, which can move on water and wetlands, overcome irregularities and broken ice, are already on duty.

To determine the thickness of the ice and monitor the state of ice crossings, the LD-1200 and Pikor-Led echo-flow meters are used. Unmanned aerial vehicles allow you to control the situation on the pond and drop rescue equipment to drowning people.

Air support is provided by 11 firefighting and ambulance helicopters of the Moscow Aviation Center. Rescuers can land in hard-to-reach places, provide assistance to victims and evacuate them by helicopter.

“The plans for 2022 include the creation of new fire and rescue teams in New Moscow. About 100 firefighters and rescuers will be on duty every day. In the South-Eastern District, we will commission the Maryino search and rescue station, which will be responsible for the water area of the Moskva River from the Besedinsky Bridge to the Perervinskaya Dam, ”added Sergei Sobyanin.

Rescuers of the new Maryino station will provide safety in popular places, including the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve, the Moscow Technical Sports Center, the 850th Anniversary of Moscow Park, Brateevsky Park, Brateevskaya Poima, as well as the Moscow Oil Refinery and Perervinsky hydrosystem.
