On the eve of the New Year holidays, at the main base of the Northern Fleet’s submarine forces, Gadzhievo, a solemn transfer of New Year gifts to the crews of the strategic nuclear-powered missile submarines Tula and Novomoskovsk, named after the cities of the same name in the Tula region, took place.

On the initiative of the Governor of the Tula Region, the submarine crews were presented with sets of fresh fruits and traditional Tula sweets – gingerbread and marshmallow.

The submarine command sent congratulations from the Governor of the Tula Region Alexei Dyumin:

“These long-awaited holidays are traditionally associated with plans for the future, new beginnings and belief in the best. I am confident that in 2022 your will, resilience and courage, as always, will reliably serve to strengthen the military power of Russia. May the New Year bring peace and harmony to your families, fill your homes with warmth and comfort. “

The head of the region wished the submariners good health, luck, prosperity and success in all their endeavors.

The gift-giving ceremony took place on the territory of the military camp of the Northern Fleet’s nuclear submarine association.

Many ships of the Russian Navy are named in honor of the cities and subjects of Russia in order to strengthen friendly relations between sailors and residents of these regions, as well as the military-patriotic education of young people. Families of sailors spend their vacations in cities and republics whose names are given to their ships. Residents of such cities often go to serve on a contract basis in the crews of these ships and submarines.

In the Northern Fleet, dozens of ships and submarines have the names of Russian cities and republics: these are the large anti-submarine ship Severomorsk, the small anti-submarine ship Snezhnogorsk, diesel and nuclear-powered boats Vladikavkaz, Kaluga, Orel, Karelia, Tula, Novomoskovsk, Verkhoturye, Yekaterinburg, Pskov, Nizhny Novgorod and others. The tradition of exchanging gifts with delegations of cities and regions after which their ships are named exists in every crew.
