The units of the military air defense (PVO) of the Western Military District (ZVO) organized echeloned defense to repulse a massive air strike of a simulated enemy on strategic objects of the district.

During the tactical exercise, the servicemen practiced operational advancement to the area where the main forces were deployed, repelling the attack of the “enemy’s” sabotage and reconnaissance groups both on the convoy and on the place of deployment of subunits.

The final stage of the exercise was the implementation of electronic missile launches against targets imitating enemy aircraft and ballistic missiles, in the conditions of the use of electronic suppression, as well as the performance of anti-fire maneuvers with a further change in firing positions.

The units and formations of the military air defense of the Western Military District are armed with modern anti-aircraft missile systems S-300V, Tor-M2 and portable anti-aircraft missile systems Igla with various types of missile weapons.

In total, about 1000 servicemen took part in the tactical exercise, which took place on the Day of Military Air Defense, December 26, almost 200 units of weapons, military and special equipment were involved.

The commander of the Western Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Zhuravlev, congratulated the anti-aircraft gunners on their professional holiday. In his address, he thanked the servicemen for their hard work, achieved high rates in combat training, wished them professional and career growth.
