The Crystal Compass and the Crystal Globe – cups that the Northern Fleet was awarded by the Russian Geographical Society for the results of expeditions to the Arctic – were delivered to the hydrographic service of the Northern Fleet.

The prizes received will be kept in the Hydrographic Service for two weeks, so that all expedition members and those who helped hydrographers in the implementation of these projects can see them with their own eyes and take memorable photographs with them.

The appearance of the cups in the Hydrographic Service is no coincidence. According to the results of work in 2015-2018, which were carried out by military researchers, more than 30 new geographical objects (islands, bays, capes) on the Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land archipelagos were discovered and described, most of them were named honored hydrographers who have made a significant contribution to the study of the World Ocean. These works were not only of an applied nature, but also attracted attention to the problems of global warming, and also became the starting point for new research carried out by professional geographers and enthusiasts using space images. These successes were highly praised by the geographic community in 2019, when the National Crystal Compass Prize was awarded to hydrographers as part of the joint project of the Northern Fleet. Recall that the same project won the prize in the Public Recognition nomination for this prestigious award.

The content of the application for the Prize of the Russian Geographical Society of the initiative group of hydrographs is described in detail on the website of the Ministry of Defense: Geographical discoveries made by the Hydrographic Service of the Northern Fleet in the course of comprehensive oceanographic research in the Arctic zone: Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation (
