More than 300 counter-terrorism exercises were held in 2021 at a Russian military base in Tajikistan.

The anti-terror units practiced actions to repel the attacks of conditional bandit groups on the military towns of Dushanbe and Bokhtar, the Lyaur and Sambuli training grounds, ammunition depots, military equipment parks and other military facilities.

The servicemen also performed tasks for the defense of strategically important facilities, the liberation of buildings seized by conventional “terrorists”, the detection, encirclement and neutralization of illegal armed formations within the garrisons.

During the exercise, the personnel improved their skills in providing first aid, conducting engineering and RCB reconnaissance, and disposing of improvised explosive devices. To create a situation as close as possible to a combat one, blank small arms ammunition, imitation charges, explosives, and smoke were used.

The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is Russia’s largest military facility outside its borders. Located in two cities: Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It includes motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance units, air defense units, RCB protection and communications.
