At the end of 2021, specialists from the Hydrographic Service of the Caspian Flotilla (CFL) fully completed the tasks and activities for navigational and hydrographic support for the safety of navigation of ships of the Caspian Flotilla, Russian and international maritime navigation in the Russian sector and the Volga-Caspian Canal.

Works on maintenance and repair of about 250 floating aids to navigation equipment (buoys) and coastal navigation beacons were carried out using a modern measuring complex based on a multi-beam echo sounder.

Fulfilling the agreements on the creation of a single navigational space in the Caspian Sea, hydrographs collected hydrographic and meteorological information to improve the safety of navigation of the flotilla, civil and merchant fleets.

For the period of winter navigation, the specialists of the hydrographic service have been tasked with joint icebreaker escorting of flotilla ships and civilian ships along the Volga-Caspian canal and the northern part of the Caspian Sea with specialists from the region’s maritime organizations.

At the meetings of representatives of the flotilla, civil shipowners and the administration of the Astrakhan seaport, the procedure for conducting ice reconnaissance by the hydrographic service of the Caspian Flotilla was agreed, issues of information exchange and notification of shipowners about difficult ice conditions, as well as in the event of emergency situations, were resolved.

Also, as part of the implementation of plans for the delivery of wintering supplies to navigational beacons located on the islands and in hard-to-reach areas of the Caspian Sea coast, ships of the auxiliary fleet, transport aviation, means of delivering fuels and lubricants delivered more than 15 tons of various cargoes, food of long shelf life, fuels and lubricants and other material resources.

Thus, the personnel of the remote parts of the flotilla are 100% provided with wintering supplies.
