The first in the Russian Navy, the New Year 2022, taking into account the time difference, will be met by the lighthouses and personnel of the Russian Cat lighthouse in Chukotka. This lighthouse ensures the safety of navigation in the water area of the Bering Sea along sea communications running from the main base of the Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok to the port of Anadyr.
The lighthouse of the hydrographic service of the Russian Navy “Russian Cat” is located on the spit, which protrudes (protrudes) into the Bering Sea for more than 20 km. (The Russian Cat — the scythe in Chukotka, separates the Klinkovstrom bay of the Anadyr estuary from the Anadyr bay of the Bering Sea. Discovered and named in 1651 by Semyon Dezhnev. In a word, the Russian Cossacks called the cat a scythe or a sandbank on the seaside. On the map compiled by N. Daurkin at the end of the 18th century , marked as Chegroinop. The modern Chukchi name of the spit is Chegrainon).
The group of personnel serving the uninterrupted operation of the lighthouse will include 6 people. At the lighthouse “Russian Cat” during the navigation period from June to December, a lighthouse watch is carried out. As a rule, from January until the end of the winter period, preventive maintenance of the lighthouse is carried out. In June, with the improvement of ice conditions in the Bering Sea and the opening of navigation, the lighthouse switches to normal operation.
