The annual campaign for the collection and processing of New Year’s coniferous trees “Yolochny Gyrovorot” has begun in the capital.

“From today until February 20, more than 580 points of reception of New Year’s trees for disposal will operate in the city, 11 points are open in natural areas,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for housing and communal services and improvement

Peter Biryukov.

The “Christmas tree circle” campaign has been held since 2016 and is popular with the townspeople. Muscovites last season brought to the collection points more than 44.5 thousand trees.

“Its main goal is to help competently dispose of New Year’s trees and, at the same time, draw attention to the separate waste collection program,” noted Pyotr Biryukov.

The location of the points is determined by voting in the “Active Citizen” project, trees can be handed over for free, the deputy mayor added.

As part of the campaign, Christmas trees, pines and firs are accepted at the collection points. A prerequisite is the absence of New Year’s tinsel and decorations.

The collected trees are processed into chips, which are used for bedding in open-air cages and for arranging ecological paths.
