During this year, more than 170 cultural heritage sites have been restored in the city.

In 2021, Moscow restorers have successfully continued to work on the preservation of important historical buildings in the capital. In the city Department of Cultural Heritagesummed up the results and told what they managed to do over the past 12 months.

“After a difficult year in 2020, the industry has managed to increase its turnover. The number of renovated objects exceeded 170 and reached the level of 2019. In just 10 years, more than 1,700 cultural heritage sites have already been put in order, and the share of monuments in good and satisfactory condition has increased from 66 to 95.4 percent, “said the head

The city has restored both small objects (for example, two famous rotunda pavilions in Gorky Park on the embankment and the Golden Sheaf pavilions in the Tsaritsyno estate museum), as well as more monumental buildings, including the Bolshoi Kamenny Bridge. Also this year, the sculptural compositions of residential buildings on Gagarin Square, the Morozov mansion of the late 19th century on Spiridonovka, the Tretyakovs’ house on 1st Golutvinsky Lane and many others were put in order.

We carried out a comprehensive restoration of 29 objects, which is almost twice as much as last year. Among them, for example, the House of Culture “GES-2”, Little Russian courtyard, Bykov’s apartment building on 2nd Brestskaya Street, the building of the 9th classical grammar school named after Ivan and Alexandra Medvednikov in Starokonyushenny Lane and the House-Museum of F.M. Dostoevsky.

Comprehensive works on their preservation have been completed at 23 of 49 VDNKh objects recognized as monuments of history and culture. The facilities also include the Metallurgy Pavilion (formerly of the Kazakh SSR), renovated in 2021.

Special attention is traditionally paid to facilities in emergency condition.

“We have clear criteria for the unsatisfactory state of monuments and a scheme for working with each one. Thanks to this, the share of damaged facilities has decreased by 6.9 times since 2010, ”noted Aleksey Yemelyanov.

One of these monuments was the main house of the Sushkin city estate – A.B. Kevorkov. Now the restoration is being completed here, the facades have been restored and the work in the interiors is being completed.

More than half of all objects were put in order at the expense of private investors. For example, under the city program “1 ruble per 1 square meter”, the restoration of the Naumov-Volkonskys’ dwelling house on Prechistenka was completed.

Many objects of cult architecture are real masterpieces of architecture, they are given great attention. Over the past 11 years in Moscow, 127 religious buildings have been included in various programs. Also this year the works are funded by the city budget were conducted at 46 sites, including monuments to the Russian Orthodox Church, the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church and the Jewish community in Moscow.

In addition, the restoration of artistic gravestones of 22 burials at the Vagankovsky, Armenian, Pyatnitsky, Vvedensky and Danilovsky cemeteries has been completed. The restoration of 73 gravestones and the chapel-burial vault of the Donskoy necropolis, as well as the gravestones and the chapel-burial vault at the Vvedenskoye cemetery is nearing completion.

In 2021, four works of monumental art were restored. Among them are a monument to Ivan Krylov in the park near the Patriarch’s Ponds and others.

Now under restoration are Melnikov’s garage on Novoryazanskaya Street, the building of the Moscow Post Office, the Abrikosovs’ dwelling house and other objects.
