Gorky Park

There are skating rinks in the parks, the trees put on snow caps, and in the evenings visitors are delighted with New Year’s glowing garlands.

Moscow parks are an ideal place not only for walking, but also for atmospheric winter photographs. You can take interesting photos on skating rinks, which are especially beautiful in the evening, take a family photo in snow-covered alleys or against the background of New Year’s installations, for example, a crystal tree or five-meter nutcrackers. Read the mos.ru article to find out which parks to choose for winter photo sessions.

Snow-covered gazebos and park posters

The best for romantic photo sessions on New Year’s days is the Hermitage Garden. The ice rink became its main decoration. This year it is decorated with an original rosetta ornament (this is a blossoming flower inscribed in a circle) with white petals. The skating rink overlooks the central square of the garden with New Year’s illumination. The usual garden cottages also look new in winter: snow falls beautifully on the wrought-iron patterns of the gazebos, creating the atmosphere of a European fairy tale.

The Mirror Skating Rink in Gorky Park celebrated its anniversary in 2021 – it turned 90 years old. It is decorated in the style of park posters of the Soviet period, decorated with light installations around the perimeter, and themed photo zones are located on its ice. Here, atmospheric photographs can be taken in the Hearth zone.

Another skating rink worth paying attention to is Shining Ice in Tagansky Park. This is one of the largest artificial ice skating rinks in Moscow parks. But most importantly, very close to it there is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance – the Pokrovsky Monastery. Thus, photographing loved ones on the skating rink, you can capture the walls and tower of the monastery or the majestic Resurrection Cathedral.

Glowing arches and winter landscapes

One of the most popular places for photo shoots is the avenue of arches in Sokolniki Park. Its appearance has remained practically unchanged over the years: the legendary arches can also be seen in old black-and-white photographs. In the dark, each of them is illuminated by many bright bulbs. And Fountain Square these days has turned into a fabulous New Year’s installation with figure skates and walking couples.

On the Central Square of Izmailovsky Park, townspeople can not only make traditional New Year’s footage with a Christmas tree, but also capture the boat station that was transformed in winter. Here you can take a photo against the background of the Round Pond overlooking a large Ferris wheel or an islet, as well as in a wooden gallery or on an observation deck. In winter, the park is decorated with light installations: Christmas trees along the shore of the pond, a tunnel on the side of the big Ferris wheel, and Christmas balls and snowflakes on the alley at the main entrance.

Babushkinsky Park is also waiting for the New Year’s photo session. The arch of the main entrance from the side of Menzhinsky Street was decorated with garlands of light and snowflakes. Fir-trees in flowerpots, powdered with snow, are located nearby. On the playground, a Christmas tree is already sparkling with garlands. Next to it is a huge ball with mirrored edges.

In addition, a fabulous winter landscape can be filmed on a wooden bridge on the bioplato in the park along Olonetsky proezd. The bridge bends intricately over the reservoir, and the branches of the trees form a natural arch. It is better to spend a photo session here during the day.

Pseudo-gothic, carriage and nutcrackers

The crystal tree in the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve will delight visitors all the New Year holidays. Excellent photographs will be obtained here even at dusk, when the architectural illumination of the palace turns on, and the light of 50 thousand LEDs emanates from the tree itself. Nearby, there are five-meter nutcrackers made especially for Tsaritsyn a few years ago. Since then, they have been giving the guests of the park a festive mood every year.

In winter, other objects with illumination appear in the museum-reserve. For example, a luminous photo frame is installed next to the Figured Bridge. Also on the territory of the park you can find a carriage drawn by six horses (on the Tsaritsyn dam, which connects the Upper and Sredny ponds), a car and a throne (at the skating rink next to the Shipilovsky gate).

The Vorontsovo estate looks especially fabulous in winter. Brick turrets and the arch of the main entrance, decorated in a pseudo-Gothic style, contrast with the snow-white cover. Photos will also be successful against the background of a complex of manor buildings of the 19th century: residential and service outbuildings. Among them, the former greenhouse stands out – it is decorated with arches separated by six Tuscan semi-columns. The dome of the building is crowned with a statue of the goddess Flora. During New Year’s holidays in the park, you can also take a photo against the background of festive installations – arches and carriages.

Snow gardens and alleys

The apple orchard in the Severnoye Tushino park and the nearby alleys are especially transformed in winter – against the background of snow, tree branches resemble intricate fairy-tale patterns. You can take a sled, a thermos with you, wrap yourself in a bright scarf and arrange a photo session against the backdrop of snow-covered trees.

In the center of Dubki Park, you can also arrange a beautiful photo session: at this time, the path connecting the rotunda and the bridge is decorated with a light tunnel, and next to the colonnade there is a New Year tree.
