On the eve of this bright holiday, a number of events took place on the territory of the Military Institute and outside it, culminating in a Christmas service – the celebration of the Divine Liturgy with the participation of personnel, who were then presented with Christmas gifts.

From December 27 to January 10, the cadets departed for the winter vacation. Before their departure, the servicemen visited social institutions (societies with disabilities) on the territory of St. Petersburg, sharing with the children the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s joy. The cadets gave the children a lot of sweets, and in return the children presented their drawings. Thus, the Christmas campaign “Gifts of the Magi” has started.

Despite the absence of a variable composition of cadets, officers and graduation courses continued their duty to ensure the life and activities of the institute, as well as a scientific company.

On New Year’s and Pre-Christmas days, the assistant to the head of the Military Institute (for work with religious servicemen), priest Yevgeny Tsiklauri, held conversations with the personnel about the history and traditions of celebrating the Nativity of Christ and the New Year.

On January 7, on the day of the Nativity of Jesus Christ, in the house church of the institute in honor of St. Ignatius (Brianchaninov), the Divine Liturgy was performed, during which the personnel received the Sacraments of Confession and Communion. The priest read out the Christmas messages on behalf of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and the ruling bishop, Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Barsanuphius.

At the end of the service, the soldiers were not left without Christmas gifts. They were presented by Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker himself in the form of Santa Claus.
