Residents of Russian regions took an active part in the events of the Decade of Sports and Health. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The Decade of Sports and Health is traditionally held in Russia in the first days of January. All events – relay races, family starts, competitions in various sports – were held in the constituent entities in compliance with the requirements of Rospotrebnadzor.

“During the New Year holidays, many Russians have chosen an active lifestyle. More than 15 thousand sports and recreation events were held in the regions of Russia on holidays. In some regions, they combined sports and the attributes of their favorite New Year’s holidays. For example, in Izhevsk, Vladivostok and other territories, New Year’s ski fancy-dress races took place, ”said the Deputy Prime Minister.

Dmitry Chernyshenko added that the Decade of Sports and Health events are held for all categories of the population and are not limited to winter sports. In the Bryansk region, residents of the region took part in competitions in volleyball, table tennis, basketball, mini-football. Backgammon and chess tournaments were organized in the Amur Region. In the Murmansk region, they competed in wrestling, in the Ulyanovsk region, every day of the Decade was themed and dedicated to one of the sports – bandy, figure skating, ice hockey. In the Sakhalin region, snowboard enthusiasts took part in the “Christmas Parallel” race. In St. Petersburg, on courtyard sports grounds, skating rinks, parks, hockey tournaments, master classes in Nordic walking and figure skating were held.

The Decade of Sports and Health was organized by the Ministry of Sports of Russia together with the leadership of the regions and is traditionally aimed at massively attracting Russians to physical education and sports during the New Year holidays, popularizing sports and increasing the social activity of the population of different ages.
