In the Moscow region, at the Golovenki training ground, servicemen of the Kantemirovskaya tank division of the Guards Tank Red Banner Army of the Western Military District, called up for military service last autumn, for the first time performed live firing with a regular shell from tanks.

Tankers fired from 125-mm cannons of T-80U tanks at static targets imitating the armored equipment of a conventional enemy. A feature of the shooting was the limited time for the appearance of targets, during which the gunners had to find targets, aim the cannon and fire a shot.

The tank commanders had to destroy low-flying aircraft of the simulated enemy at a distance of 600 to 1200 meters from large-caliber 12.7-mm Kord machine guns.

At the final stage of the exercise, the tankers made a 40-kilometer march, overcoming more than 20 natural and artificial obstacles on the way, including a ford, an anti-tank ditch and a track bridge.

In total, about 150 servicemen and over 40 units of weapons, military and special equipment of the Kantemirovskaya tank division of the ZVO tank association took part in combat training classes.
