Servicemen of the reconnaissance unit of the motorized rifle formation of the Southern Military District (SMD) in the Volgograd Region, as part of a special tactical exercise, performed tactical firing at conventional enemy equipment and manpower from various small arms, in particular, the latest Kalashnikov AK-12 assault rifle.

The tactical shooting exercise took place under conditions of heavy snow drifts – difficult weather conditions are the main element of the combat training of scouts, who must operate effectively under any circumstances.

Before entering the firing line, the servicemen studied safety requirements, the conditions for performing small arms firing exercises, the procedure for adjusting optical and night sights, the rules for opening and firing, as well as methods for determining the range to the target.

Fire training sessions with personnel were held at several training sites, where they worked out the standards for combat readiness, the control firing exercise UKS-1 from an AK-12 assault rifle and the control firing exercise UKS-2.

The servicemen worked out covert movement, equipment and camouflage of firing positions, after which they carried out defense as part of platoons with a transition to a counterattack. In order to stop the forward groups of the mock enemy, the standards for throwing hand grenades were met.

The AK-12 was developed by the Kalashnikov Concern as part of the Ratnik program as an element of a promising complex for equipping the military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, it was put into service at the end of 2018, and compared to previous generations, it has improved ergonomics and accuracy of fire.
