The crews of the upgraded MiG-31BM high-altitude fighter-interceptors of the air defense (Air Defense) forces of the Central Military District (TsVO) on duty covered the airspace and intercepted mock violators during the training and combat missions in the Urals and Siberia.

As part of the performance of combat training tasks, the crews of the air defense forces in the Perm and Krasnoyarsk Territories independently monitored the airspace without the use of ground-based radar reconnaissance equipment.

The pilots of the MiG-31BM detected mock violators using the Zaslon-M airborne radar stations. The Ural fighter-interceptors carried out escort of the “enemy” aircraft, transmitted their coordinates to ground-based air defense systems and performed maneuvers to force a landing.

The Siberian crews carried out a rendezvous with the “enemy” aircraft up to a distance of about 40 kilometers and performed electronic launches of air-to-air missiles at the intruder aircraft. During the training of duty forces, the crews of the MiG-31BM worked out more than 10 training tasks to counter air targets operating at low and medium altitudes and speeds up to 2000 km/h.

10 MiG-31BM aircraft and about 200 military personnel from the flight, engineering and technical staff, combat crews of ground-based radar systems and air defense systems, as well as control and flight support groups were involved in the training of the duty crews of the MiG-31BM fighter-interceptors.
