The command of the Belgorod garrison of the Western Military District (ZVO) congratulated the participant of the Great Patriotic War, the defender of Voronezh and the multiple record holder of Russia Maria Denisovna Koltakova on her 100th birthday.

The hero of the day was honored by servicemen of the Belgorod garrison of the Western Military District, future junior specialists of the aerospace forces. The banner group carried the banners of the types and branches of the military, the serviceman released balloons according to the number of Miriya Denisovna’s years, and the complex of congratulations was completed by the solemn march of the servicemen under the defile of the military band.

Maria Denisovna volunteered for the front from the city of Kemerovo in 1942. Served in the sanitary battalion. She went through the Battle of Kursk, participated in the liberation of many cities, carried out more than 300 wounded from the battlefield. During the war, Maria Denisovna was wounded twice, was shell-shocked, buried alive underground. She met the victory in Prague, not reaching Berlin only 60 km due to injury. Maria Koltakova was awarded the Order of Glory III degree, the Order of the Patriotic War I degree, as well as the medals “For Courage” and “For Military Merit”.

Today, Maria Denisovna is known not only for her front-line exploits. A participant in the Great Patriotic War is a multiple record holder of Russia. At the age of 95, she flew a non-powered plane to a height of a thousand meters and performed several aerobatic maneuvers. At the age of 96, she set a record by driving five laps of 400 meters on the map. Maria Denisovna jumped with a parachute from a height of 3 thousand meters, dived to the depths with scuba gear, flew in a balloon, hang glider and in a wind tunnel, was the navigator of one of the jeep trial crews and rode a bike with the Night Wolves motorcycle club. Thanks to these achievements, Maria Koltakova is called the “iron grandmother”.
