January 16 marked the 310th anniversary of the establishment of the A.F. Mozhaisky – the oldest military educational institution in the country, which trains highly qualified specialists for the Aerospace Forces, types and branches of the Armed Forces, military authorities, other ministries and departments, as well as foreign military specialists.

VKA named after A.F. Mozhaisky is a backbone polytechnic university of the Russian Ministry of Defense, a leading educational, scientific and methodological center in the field of military space activities, information and telecommunication technologies and technologies for collecting and processing special information.

The Academy is constantly developing, improving educational and scientific activities, replenishing the educational-methodical and educational-material base, creating all the necessary conditions for the training and education of students and cadets.

Currently, the VKA provides training at 12 faculties in 16 specialties of higher education (specialist), two specialties of higher education (master’s degree), 5 specialties of secondary vocational education, 17 scientific specialties for training highly qualified personnel in postgraduate and doctoral studies, 161 additional professional retraining programs and advanced training.

Permanent scientific and technical sections and scientific associations in such subjects as physics, mathematics, radio electronics, military history, foreign language and others help cadets to successfully master general and special disciplines. The result of such enhanced training is the regular participation of representatives of the Academy in various competitions of scientific and technical creativity of youth and students, as well as in educational and scientific grants. More than 45 subject Olympiads and academic competitions are held annually among cadets of the academy.

The nature of scientific research carried out in the WCA is determined by the historically established generally recognized scientific schools. The Academy has 19 registered leading scientific schools, one of which is recognized as the leading scientific school of the Russian Federation, and 12 are included in the Register of leading scientific and scientific-pedagogical schools of St. Petersburg.

Every year, the VKA organizes and holds on its basis up to 10 all-Russian scientific conferences, 12 permanent scientific and theoretical seminars, competitions among cadets and students for the best scientific work, exhibitions of scientific and technical creativity, etc. The Academy is a permanent participant of the International Military-Technical Forum “Army” and the organizer of the All-Russian Open Exhibition “Scientific and Technical Creativity and Innovation”, where it presents its competitive projects and takes part in round tables on the topics of exhibitions. According to the results of scientific and methodological activities, the staff of the academy annually publishes more than 600 articles in external publications, about 400 articles in the publications of the academy.

Journal “Proceedings of the Military Space Academy named after A.F. Mozhaisky”, founded in 1942, is included in the List of peer-reviewed scientific publications of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, in which the main results of dissertations for the degrees of candidate of science and doctor of science are published.

The successful solution of the tasks facing the academy is facilitated by its powerful scientific and pedagogical potential, which consists of: more than 130 doctors of science, more than 880 candidates of science, more than 90 professors and about 400 associate professors, 39 honored workers of science and honored workers of science and technology of the Russian Federation, 16 honored workers higher school of the Russian Federation, 59 honorary professors of the academy.

To conduct scientific research, on July 15, 2009, the Military Institute (research) was formed – a structural subdivision of the VKA. It employs more than 400 scientists and specialists of engineering and technical personnel. More than 150 researchers are regularly involved in the implementation of educational activities. The scientific potential is more than 30 Doctors of Science and more than 180 Candidates of Science.

The Research Institute has unique samples of laboratory, experimental and modeling base: experimental ballistic stand; complex of certified wind tunnels; radar measuring complex; integrated aircraft laboratory; stands for studying the impact of outer space factors on objects of rocket and space technology; stand for modeling the background-target environment and others.

Thanks to the scientific potential of the military institute, the capabilities of the laboratory and experimental base, the combined efforts of faculty and general academic departments and departments of the institute, a significant improvement in the quality of scientific research has been achieved.

The traditions of international cooperation in the field of military education in the VKA have a long history. The training of foreign military personnel strengthens Russia’s political and economic position on the world stage, because after training, graduates form the backbone of the military and political leadership of their countries.

More than seven foreign delegations visit the academy every year. Among them are representatives of the armed forces of Belarus, Azerbaijan, South Korea, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia and others. For more than 75 years of training of foreign military personnel, the academy has trained more than 1,500 specialists for 51 countries of the near and far abroad. In recent years, officers from Algeria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, China, Egypt, Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia and other countries have undergone retraining and advanced training at the academy.

Students and cadets of the academy always find time for outdoor activities and cultural education, visiting various museums and theaters of St. Petersburg, participating in sports competitions at various levels, achieving awards of the highest standard in them. The Academy strives to ensure that within its legendary historical walls it would be interesting and comfortable not only to master advanced knowledge, but also to relax, improve the spirit and body, and become worthy representatives of the cultural capital of Russia.

For merits in ensuring security, strengthening the defense capability of the state, training qualified military personnel and the distinctions shown by personnel in the course of performing official tasks, by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of November 8, 2021 No. 626, the Academy was awarded the Order of Zhukov.
