In the Pacific Higher Naval School named after S.O. Makarov put into operation a new training complex “Hephaestus”, designed to train naval specialists in the fight for the survivability of a surface ship and submarine in emergency situations. The complex was received according to the plan of equipping the educational institution with a modern educational and material base.

During the development of the complex, the first training of the cadets of the school was carried out, which in practice consolidated their theoretical knowledge of the fight for the ship’s survivability. Emergency situations were worked out with the ingress of sea water and with a fire in various compartments of the ship.

The training complex “Gefest” is made of 12 40-foot containers and allows you to simultaneously train several training groups. The uniqueness of the complex lies in the fact that it simulates many possible emergency situations that are as close as possible to the real situation that the crew of the ship may encounter. The complex is provided with water and carbon dioxide fire extinguishing systems, a hole simulator and other systems. The modules simulate a cabin, a galley, an engine room, an open deck and a cargo hold. The more complex ones are the “smoke maze” and “foam compartment”.

Classes are conducted under the supervision of trained instructors, and the actions of the trainees are accompanied by video filming for further analysis of the actions of seafarers.
