In Tajikistan, tactical exercises of motorized rifle units of the 201st Russian military base began at the Lyaur and Sambuli mountain ranges. In total, about a thousand military personnel were involved in combat training activities.

The personnel, with the support of artillery and army aviation, will have to work out the use of reconnaissance-strike and fire systems in defense and offensive. The servicemen will perform live firing from all types of small arms, grenade launchers, as well as from the armament of combat vehicles. To create an environment as close as possible to combat, both static and dynamic targets of various types will be used at the training grounds.

The main purpose of tactical exercises is to test the combat readiness of motorized rifle units, their coherence in the performance of combat training tasks.


The 201st military base located in Tajikistan is Russia’s largest military facility outside its borders. Based in two cities – Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It consists of motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance units, air defense units, NBC defense and communications units.
