Izhevsk hosted the Russian biathlon championship among boys and girls aged 17-18. The competitions became qualifying for the youth national team for the world championship and the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival. Athletes competed in sprints, mass starts and team races.

In the mass start of an ordinary sports company of CSKA (Samara), Mikhail Morilov from Khanty-Mansiysk was the first to cross the finish line, showing the result of 30:42.6. He was followed by Oleg Mironov from the Tyumen region (30:53.5), 10.9 seconds behind the leader and making two inaccurate shots. The third place was taken by Petersburger Mikhail Filimonov (31:12.9), who lost 30.3 seconds to the winner with two penalty loops. In addition, Mikhail Morilov became the winner of the qualifying competitions.

The victory at the Russian championship allowed the army team to join the national team to participate in the world championship in the USA (February 20 – March 2) and the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Finland (March 20 – 25).
