Over 10 holidays, almost 12 million Russians went on trips around the country. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko. Rostourism has completed the count of tourist trips made during the New Year and Christmas holidays.

“Despite the opening of foreign destinations, the number of Russians who preferred to rest within the country increased by 19%. Almost 12 million citizens went on trips to the regions of Russia during the New Year and Christmas holidays. Last year, let me remind you, their number was about 10 million. Excursion programs, sanatorium-and-spa rest have traditionally become the most demanded. From year to year, the number of tourists who prefer ski resorts continues to grow. This year, more than 2 million people have chosen them, which is 26% more than last year’s figures,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

The most popular destinations, according to Dmitry Chernyshenko, are the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory and Crimea, the mountain resorts of Krasnaya Polyana, Altai, Sheregesh, Sakhalin, as well as educational routes of Tatarstan, the Kaliningrad Region, thermal and health resorts of Tyumen and Stavropol.

“In general, the tourism industry has recovered by 87% compared to pre-Covid indicators. According to the Ministry of Transport, 89 million passengers made domestic flights in 2021, which is 22% more than in 2019. State support measures have made a significant contribution to this. As part of the new national project “Tourism and Hospitality Industry”, last year we launched a program of charter flights. The Russians were able to purchase tours to ten popular destinations 1.5–2.5 times cheaper. About 300 million rubles were allocated to subsidize half of the cost of charter aircraft to Sakhalin, Buryatia, Tyumen and other regions. There were also cashback programs, which were used by about 1.7 million people. You can relax with a 20% discount even now. Recently, a new stage of the program has started. This year, we expect that, thanks to support measures, the flow of tourists to the regions will continue to grow and the industry will not only recover, but also exceed the current indicators,” Dmitry Chernyshenko said.

Dmitry Chernyshenko also noted that the occupancy of hotels on holidays on average in the country was 70%, and in some regions it reached 98%. The average length of stay in accommodation facilities lasted three days. The longest trips for Russians were trips to the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory, Baikal, Sakhalin and Kaliningrad.
