In St. Petersburg, training flights were held in a separate helicopter regiment of the Leningrad Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Western Military District (ZVO).

The crews of the Mi-8, Mi-24 transport and combat helicopters and the Mi-28 “Night Hunter” attack helicopters worked out the main and most complex piloting elements: flights at extremely low altitudes, in difficult meteorological conditions, instrument landing, flights with one throttled engine, as well as maneuvers to avoid weapons.

In addition, during the flights, the interaction of the crews with the ground flight control team at the control tower was practiced.

During training flights, more than 40 takeoffs and landings of aircraft were made.
