Today, four crews of Tu-142 anti-submarine aircraft of a separate mixed aviation regiment of the 45th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Northern Fleet practiced refueling in the air during training flights.

Refueling was carried out at an altitude of about 4 thousand meters at a speed of about 500 km / h. The training took place in the area of the home airfield.

During the flights, the crews successfully worked out interaction with the Il-78 tanker aircraft of the long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces. In addition to performing air refueling tasks, the pilots performed joint maneuvering at low altitudes.

Such flights are one of the most difficult types of flight training, during which the Tu-142 anti-submarine aircraft, which has a take-off weight of 190 tons, must approach the Il-78 air tanker weighing 170 tons at a distance of 10-15 meters and come into contact with the cone tanker sensor, and then maintain a place in the ranks until full refueling.

In-flight refueling significantly increases the time and range of action, and also expands the capabilities of Tu-142 long-range anti-submarine aircraft. This allows you to use a permanent location to perform tasks at a great distance.
