Servicemen of engineering and sapper units of the Guards Red Banner Combined Arms Army of the Western Military District (ZVO) destroyed a mock enemy in the Voronezh Region as part of a special tactical exercise.

According to the plan of the exercise, the engineering reconnaissance patrol opened the way to the captured settlement, provided the possibility of building bridges over water barriers along the route of the main forces, and also established the amount of destruction and the possibility of bypassing them. When the “enemy” was detected, the assault units, supported by T-72B3 tanks, blocked it and used the UR-77 Meteorit self-propelled demining units.

A new way of using the equipment of the engineering troops was applied on the basis of modern experience in conducting local conflicts. In total, over 500 military personnel were involved in the exercise, more than 30 units of military and special equipment were involved.

January 21 marks the 321st anniversary of the formation of the engineering troops. Servicemen-engineers perform a number of special tasks associated with a risk to life, not only in wartime, but also in peacetime. Engineering units of the Western Military District are involved in cleaning up explosive objects at the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War, and are directly involved in the elimination of the consequences of emergencies.
