Within the framework of the unique project of the Russian Ministry of Defense “Memory Road”, residents of the western part of Russia, as well as military personnel of the Western Military District (ZVO), uploaded information about more than 8 million participants in the Great Patriotic War to the data bank.

“We must remember the heroism and steadfastness of the Soviet people in the struggle for the freedom of our Motherland. 8 million 186 thousand 50 participants of that war are listed in the electronic database from 26 regions of deployment of the WMD troops. This number is not final. The work will certainly continue. I would like to note the high activity of our citizens in providing data,” said Colonel-General Alexander Zhuravlev, Commander of the District’s troops.

To digitize photographs of Red Army soldiers and home front workers, as well as various documents and letters from the front, data download points have been deployed on the territory of military units, formations, military commissariats, and garrison cultural centers of the district. At these points, anyone can provide information about their relatives.

The All-Russian action to search for and systematize materials about the participants of the Great Patriotic War is carried out in order to perpetuate the memory of the fallen defenders of the Fatherland, as well as in the framework of the implementation of measures for the patriotic education of young people.

All collected information is placed in the exposition of the multimedia museum “Memory Road”.
