Last year, military engineers of the Central Military District (TsVO) saved more than 60 settlements from flooding. Congratulating military engineers on their professional holiday, this was announced by the commander of the district troops, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin.

“Last year, the engineers of the military district, with their professional actions, prevented the flooding of more than 60 settlements in the republics of Bashkiria, Tuva, the Chelyabinsk and Orenburg regions, the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and the Udmurt Republic,” said Colonel General Alexander Lapin. He recalled that in 2021, specialists from the engineering troops of the Central Military District restored transport links between settlements disturbed by snow blockages, fought natural fires on a territory with a total area of ​​84 hectares.

“I am sure that you will continue to solve the most difficult tasks with honor in the interests of the defense capability of our state,” said the commander of the Central Military District.


Engineering Troops Day is celebrated annually on January 21st. The celebration is timed to coincide with the date of the publication in 1701 of the decree of Tsar Peter I on the creation in Moscow of the “School of the Pushkar order” for the training of artillery officers and military engineers. Since 1702, the first miner units of the regular Russian army began to be completed with graduates of this school. In 1704 a pontoon team was formed. By 1712, a regiment of military engineers was created. Modern engineering troops were formed during the creation of the Workers ‘and Peasants’ Red Army.
