But today, young people already from the first year think about their future profession and try to apply the knowledge gained at the university in practice. Yes, and money for a student is never superfluous. Unique Chance The Government of Moscow gives young specialists the opportunity to build their career even without experience.
How to get an internship at the Moscow Government or get an internship after working in three city organizations at once, we will tell you on Student’s Day on mos.ru.
Internship: prove yourself and become part of the team
Senior students, undergraduates and university graduates can take a six-month paid internship at the Moscow Government. Interns have the opportunity to work in three different places, such as the Mayor’s Office, the Department of Education and Science and the Moscow Innovation Agency.
The program has six areas: “Media City”, “Legal Space”, “Social City”, “Urban Economy”, “HR City” and “Comfortable Urban Environment”. Such a system allows you to get a diverse experience and increases the chances of finding a job to your liking. After the internship, all participants enter the closed professional community “Career League”. There they are the first to learn about the current vacancies of the Moscow Government, attend closed events and master classes, and even travel around Russia to raise team spirit.
Second-year student of the Moscow State Law University (MSLA) named after O.E. Kutafina Milana Gorbacheva chose the direction of “Media City” and is undergoing an internship at the agency “Mosgortur”which is engaged in the organization of children’s recreation. From the first days, the girl, together with her colleagues, has been involved in the development of a new concept for the development of children’s camps. Milana works on an equal footing with the rest of the team. A big plus, according to her, was the attentive attitude of the team to the trainee.
“I was warmly received, they made a more convenient schedule. I can calmly approach the management and say what is not working in my work, or, conversely, ask for a new task. I like the young team, the atmosphere here is friendly,” says Milana Gorbacheva.
In her opinion, an internship at the Moscow Government is a chance to study the process of managing the city from the inside and an opportunity to show your strengths. In the future, this will help to get a dream job – more than 60 percent of young professionals are employed during their internship or immediately after it ends.
Maxim Semin, a second-year master’s student at Moscow City Pedagogical University, began his internship in September 2021. First, he worked at the Analytical Center of the Moscow Government, where he collected sociological data about the capital. The second phase of the internship took place in Department of Education and Science. There, Maxim analyzed the work of education systems in other countries and the results of exams for school graduates. The work helped the student in writing his master’s thesis: he included most of the information received during the internship in the study. Now Maxim Semin is undergoing an internship at Innovation Agency in the project “Pilot testing of innovative solutions”. He is looking for organizations that can offer new solutions for the development of tourism in Moscow.
“During the internship, I found a small company that developed a virtual operator for tourists. It helps to find a tour without a trip to an agency. This is a bot created on the basis of artificial intelligence. You can write your wishes to him, and he will immediately give out a selection of tours, ”says Maxim Semin.
During the internship, the young man was able to apply his knowledge of foreign languages, learned to search for information better, make up analytical tables for 20 thousand lines, and build relationships with colleagues. In addition, Maxim attended master classes and meetings with alumni, which were held as part of the internship program. According to him, such events increase the motivation to work and develop. After graduating from university, Maxim dreams of finding a job in the specialty “analytics” in the Government of Moscow and improving in this area.
First practical experience
The easiest way to start getting acquainted with the system of managing the capital is to complete an internship and training in the executive authorities of Moscow and city organizations. Students of any university or college in the capital have such an opportunity.
The program is implemented through Moscow City University of Management (MGUU) of the Government of Moscow, which cooperates with almost all structural divisions of the City Hall. To complete an internship, you must send a resume, dates of internship and an agreement from the university to the e-mail address of the career development center of the Moscow State University of Management of the Government of Moscow: email@example.com.
For a month of practice, a novice specialist under the guidance of a mentor solves real problems and improves his professionalism. And most importantly, during pre-graduation practice, students have the opportunity to collect material for their final qualifying work. But this is not all the pluses. Those students who prove themselves can also receive a job offer in one of the city structures.
Vladislav Markov, a student of the College of Automation and Information Technologies No. 20, in December 2021 did an internship at State Inspectorate for Control over the Use of Real Estate in Moscow.
“We were offered a choice of two areas: working with the information system of the state inspection or monitoring objects using quadrocopters. I chose the first one, because it is more related to my specialty “programming information systems,” says Vladislav Markov.
The trainee’s duties included drawing up powers of attorney and creating keys for electronic signatures. He was also instructed to prescribe the functional requirements for the information system of the state inspection, that is, to explain what actions it should perform and how to respond to certain incoming data.
But one of the important advantages of the practice, the student called the development of personal qualities, the so-called soft skills.
“I learned how to build working relationships because I had to communicate a lot with colleagues and managers. I also saw how harmoniously people can work, performing their daily duties – I am glad that I became part of such a team, ”notes Vladislav Markov.
Today Vladislav is a novice teacher, he teaches children the basics of programming in an online school. In the future, he hopes to get a permanent job in the Moscow Government.
Where is city management taught?
Another opportunity to find a job in the Government of Moscow gives admission to the magistracy Moscow City University of Management. It is here that management students, who in the future will take their place in city organizations, study, and experienced civil servants take refresher courses.
Training is conducted in the following areas: “State and municipal administration”, “Management”, “Personnel management”, “Finance and credit”, “Economics”. Students become professionals in areas such as control and audit in the financial and budgetary sphere, public procurement, housing and communal services and landscaping, management of government programs and projects, and personnel management. To exchange experience and best practices, students participate in seminars and master classes with Russian and foreign experts, representatives of business companies and heads of public authorities. During the training, students also do internships in organizations of the Moscow Government.
It is important that all curricula are developed in accordance with the real staffing needs of the city. This means that specialists will always be in demand and will not be left without work – the majority of graduates enter the service of the Moscow Government.
According to graduate of Moscow State University Oleg Shestakov, chief specialist Center for traffic management (TsODD), not only those who start their career path in the Government of Moscow study at the university’s master’s program. Among the students there are many people who have already worked in government bodies and can share their experience with newcomers and help in training. The graduate emphasizes that one of the main advantages of the master’s program is the experience of teachers who know their subject very well, not only in theory.
“There are a lot of practitioners among teachers. They can tell you what to do in a particular situation. This is a huge advantage of studying in a master’s program. If a student wants to build his career in the Government of Moscow or gain managerial competencies, then studying at the MSc of Moscow State University will definitely be a great advantage for him,” emphasizes Oleg Shestakov.
