The opening took place in the form of a teleconference with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, Minister of Transport Vitaly Savelyev and General Director – Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov.
A freight train with grain and containers went in the direction of the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin.
“This is a significant event not only for the transport industry, but for the country as a whole. The development of railways is a strategic task for us, set before the Government and Russian Railways by the President. The discovery of this section is the most important final point in such an important direction as the Azov-Black Sea basin. The task now is not just to launch this object physically, the task is to have trains with the declared cargo go in this direction. I want to thank everyone who took an active part in this, to say thanks to the railway workers, builders, designers, power engineers, the administration of the Krasnodar Territory, to everyone who provided assistance,” said Marat Khusnullin.
“We are opening train traffic on the double-track section of the North Caucasus Railway, which is the final stage of one of the largest projects under the Comprehensive Plan for the Modernization and Expansion of the Main Infrastructure and, of course, will play a significant role in ensuring fast and reliable transportation of passengers and goods between the Volga region and south of Russia. The laying of the second track on the section Tikhoretskaya – Kozyrki with a length of almost 62 km is the final link in the creation of a double-track corridor with a length of more than 700 km – from the Volga region to the Kuban, ”said Oleg Belozerov.
“The government is consistently working to improve approaches to the strategically important ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin. Commissioning of the Tikhoretskaya – Kozyrki section is, of course, a landmark event. Its work will provide a carrying capacity of 125 million tons. The opening of traffic will contribute to the development of the country’s economy, strengthen the railway and port infrastructure of the region,” Vitaly Savelyev emphasized.
Thanks to the commissioning of the second tracks on the site, it will be possible to pass twice as many trains – up to 96 pairs per day. The carrying capacity of railways to the ports of southern Russia will also almost double compared to 2018 – from 75 to 125 million tons. up to 7.1 thousand tons and will allow optimizing the technology of organizing transportation.
As part of the project, 81 km of new tracks, including station tracks, were laid, 99 km of the contact network were equipped, the track development at five stations of the section was changed – the receiving and departure tracks were extended and 94 new turnouts were laid. A microprocessor-based train traffic control system was put into operation. Also, five bridges and overpasses were built, and about 2 million cubic meters of inert materials were poured for the construction of the subgrade and ballast of the upper structure of the track.
To organize the continuous and timely delivery of goods and passengers, construction work was carried out in special technological windows in the train schedule. At the final stage of construction, 700 people and 120 pieces of equipment were simultaneously involved.
