The talks were held on the eve of the working visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to Russia.

During the conversation, Alexander Novak and Peter Szijjarto discussed the current bilateral cooperation between Russia and Hungary in the fuel and energy sector. The focus was on strengthening the energy security of Hungary, as well as the supply of energy resources.

Russia maintains its position as the largest supplier of natural gas to Hungary, every year faithfully and clearly fulfilling its contractual obligations to its Hungarian partners, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized during the conversation.

“The fuel and energy complex occupies a special place in our bilateral trade and economic relations. We have taken the right vector, we are interested not only in maintaining the achieved level of interaction, but also in its further development. In 2021, Russian gas exports to Hungarian consumers remained at 5.9 bcm. m. In this context, the signing between Gazprom Export and the Hungarian partners of two new long-term contracts for 4.5 billion cubic meters per year until 2036 became important, which became possible due to the completion of the construction of the Hungarian-Serbian main gas pipeline and its connection to the Turkish Stream “. In the context of the continuing shortage of gas in the European market, this is especially important,” said Alexander Novak.

During the conversation, the parties also discussed bilateral cooperation in the supply of oil, power engineering products and developing cooperation in terms of peaceful nuclear energy and the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant.
