In terms of railcar purchases, the capital has overtaken such megacities as New York, London and Hong Kong.

Moscow has become one of the world leaders in terms of the number of metro cars. Now there are more than six thousand cars in depot 20, said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport Maxim Liksutov.

From 2010 to 2023, in terms of railcar purchases, the capital overtook New York by almost five times, London by 2.5 times, and Hong Kong by more than two times. At the same time, the cars are constantly updated. Almost 70 percent of the compounds used in the capital are of the new generation.

In the last 1.3 years, the city has been purchasing only Moscow-2020 railcars. They have wider doors, lower noise levels, interactive metro maps and an air disinfection system. They ply along the Bolshaya Koltsevaya, Koltsevaya and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya lines. This year, 336 more such cars will appear in the city, as well as 50-100 trams.

“Last year, 337 new cars were launched, which, in terms of cost, modernity and convenience, are superior not only to trains of previous generations, but also to world analogues,” Maxim Liksutov added.
