January 29, 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic.

I heartily congratulate you and millions of music fans on the birthday of the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic.

100 years ago in Moscow, thanks to the People’s Commissar of Education, Academician Anatoly Lunacharsky, the Philharmonic Society was founded. The unique organization was created during the Civil War and, despite the difficult times, led an active concert activity, played a huge role in the development of musical art in our country.

It brought together talented and extraordinary composers, conductors, performers, bright creative teams. And, as Dmitri Shostakovich once noted, it became “a university, the course of which is taken by all music lovers and thousands of musicians.” It was here that the premieres of works by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Shchedrin took place.

At any time, the Moscow Philharmonic sounded great – at patron concerts for conscripts, performances dedicated to the opening of the second front on May 9, 1945, at festivals and tours. Its famous all-Union competitions opened the world to Svyatoslav Richter and Emil Gilels, David Oistrakh and Leonid Kogan, Mstislav Rostropovich, Evgeny Mravinsky, Kirill Kondrashin. Within these walls, concerts of the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras, the La Scala Chamber Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra were held with great success.

And today the Moscow Philharmonic is a symbol of the beauty and grandeur of musical art. One of the largest concert organizations in the world, which embodies the most daring ideas on stage, pleases the audience with symphony concerts, theatrical performances and dance performances, and also implements online projects. Among them is the “Home Season”, which allowed listeners from different regions of the country to enjoy broadcasts of artists’ performances and videos from the “golden fund” during the pandemic. It is important that you pay special attention to the implementation of interactive cycles dedicated to the musical education of children and youth.

Dear friends! Your wonderful team brings together high-class professionals, talented people, creatively gifted, infinitely devoted to art. You are celebrating this wonderful anniversary with new interesting programs and concerts. I am sure that they will become memorable events and give unforgettable impressions to everyone who comes to congratulate the Moscow Philharmonic.

I wish you inspiration, great creative success and unceasing applause.

M. Mishustin
