As part of the exercise with the Arctic expeditionary group, which is being led by the commander of the Northern Fleet, Hero of Russia Admiral Alexander Moiseev, the crew of the heavy nuclear missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky conducted an air defense exercise on the main base of the Northern Fleet – Severomorsk.

During the event, issues of maintaining the combat readiness of anti-aircraft missile weapons and radio equipment of the ship were worked out, the level of professional training of combat crews of the rocket-artillery and radio-technical warheads of the cruiser, as well as the duty watch service was checked.

The exercise took place directly at the main base point according to the scenario of repelling an attack by a mock enemy air attack on ships and fleet headquarters, as well as on sudden introductory inputs received from the regional defense control center of the Northern Fleet headquarters. The tasks of detecting and destroying air targets were solved by military sailors with the help of situation simulation programs on control devices for radio engineering and anti-aircraft missile weapons.

The Pyotr Veliky TARKR is equipped with the Fort anti-aircraft missile system, a naval analogue of the S-300 land-based anti-aircraft missile system, and is capable of providing air defense for ships at sea, as well as at base points with a radius of destruction of air targets up to 100 kilometers.
