Pilots of a separate squadron of the mixed aviation regiment of the Northern Fleet practiced in-flight refueling during an exercise with an Arctic expeditionary group led by Admiral Alexander Moiseev, commander of the fleet, Hero of Russia.

According to the plan of the exercise, six crews of Tu-142 anti-submarine aircraft flew to a conditional Arctic region, located at a considerable distance from the base airfield. To increase the flight range, the pilots worked out refueling in the air from the Il-78 tanker aircraft.

In fact, the exercise was carried out in the area of deployment of the aviation squadron in the Vologda region. It involved two Tu-142 aircraft of the Northern Fleet and an Il-78 tanker aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces. 12 sorties were made. During each of them, the Tu-142 crews practiced in-flight refueling. During refueling, anti-submarine aircraft approached the tanker at a distance of 10-15 meters in turn.

All combat training exercises were performed with high quality and in compliance with flight safety rules.
