Russian agrarians fully met the country’s needs for meat, vegetable oil, fish and grain, said Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko. “Moreover, the output of a number of types of agricultural products even exceeded the requirements of the Food Security Doctrine adopted at the beginning of 2020,” she stressed.

The Deputy Prime Minister drew attention to the record harvests over the past two years for a number of crops. “2020 was a successful year for rapeseed, rice, greenhouse vegetables, fruits and berries. And the grain harvest of 133.5 million tons has already been recognized as the second largest in the history of modern Russia. Last year, despite difficult weather conditions in a number of regions, it was possible to harvest a record volume of oilseeds – more than 23 million tons. Grains were harvested less than the previous maximum – 120.7 million tons, which at the same time fully met the domestic needs and export opportunities of the country,” added the Deputy Prime Minister.

Victoria Abramchenko also noted stable growth in animal husbandry. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2021, the production of livestock and poultry is estimated at 15.68 million tons, and positive dynamics is also observed in the production of milk. At the end of 2021, its volume is estimated at 32.3 million tons.

“Over the past two years, domestic farmers have managed to show stable results. The pandemic of a new coronavirus infection did not prevent the increase in production both in crop production and in animal husbandry. I consider this the result of a targeted state policy for the development of agriculture, support for the processing complex and a timely course towards import substitution,” said Victoria Abramchenko.
