The capital’s power engineers have begun work to provide power to the national space center in the west of the capital. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Government of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Petr Biryukov.

“Currently, work is underway to create a scientific and technological cluster, which is a joint project of the Moscow Government and the state corporation Roscosmos,” the deputy mayor noted. “The complex of buildings of the national space center with a total area of about 250,000 square meters will become the dominant feature, and the capital’s power engineers are faced with the task of ensuring reliable and uninterrupted power supply to a new important facility.”

He explained that now experts are designing power supply systems for the future center. Its total capacity will be 22.3 megawatts. It is planned to install 15 transformer and distribution points of 10 and 20 kilovolts, lay 12 cable lines with a total length of more than 30 kilometers, including more than eight kilometers using horizontal directional drilling technology. This allows you to do without excavations, save the outer part of the soil and the landscape of the area.

The head of the municipal economy complex emphasized that the power supply will be carried out according to the second category of reliability, that is, in the event of a violation on one line, the voltage will automatically be supplied through the backup one.

The work is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2022.

The National Space Center is being created jointly by the Government of Moscow and the state corporation Roscosmos. It will be one of the largest space industry centers in the world. It will unite the situational center, industry institutes and enterprises, youth design bureaus and other facilities on one site.
