About 10 thousand modern AK-12 assault rifles will be delivered to the arsenals of the Central Military District (CMD) by the end of 2022 for further distribution to troops stationed in the regions of the Urals, Siberia and the Volga region. Modern models of small arms will come to replace the machine guns of earlier modifications.

In 2021, the re-equipment of a peacekeeping unit from the Volga region with AK-12 was completed in the Central Military District. Almost 1,000 AK-12 units were delivered to a special-purpose brigade stationed in the Novosibirsk region and to a special forces unit in the Samara region.


AK-12 is a 5.45-mm machine gun of a completely new level. Developed by the Kalashnikov concern. Compared to previous versions of the AK-74M and AKM, it has improved ergonomics. AK-12 has several Picatinny rails for installing additional equipment: sights, front handle, flashlight, laser designator. The machine shop is equipped with a transparent insert for ammunition control.
