The first international center for the reintroduction and conservation of rare species of birds of prey has begun its work and is preparing to accept the first batch of premium elite falcons as breeding stock.

84 individuals will be delivered to the falconry center “Kamchatka”, the first generation of chicks bred in the center is expected in the spring of this year.

The project is being implemented by the Kamchatka Falcon Center under an agreement with the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (KRDV), co-investors are Zapsibgazprom OJSC and the investment platform of the Roscongress Foundation – the RK-Investments Fund.

“The construction of a center for the conservation of birds of rare species in Kamchatka is being carried out on behalf of the President. The government has approved an action plan for the creation of centers for the reintroduction and conservation of birds of the falcon family in the Kamchatka Territory and bustards in the Republic of Kalmykia as pilot ones. This is the first step towards the development of an integrated approach to ensuring ornithological balance in urban areas. This project combined the best international experience, its implementation was carried out in close cooperation, including with experts from Arab countries. The revival of falconry traditions in Russia will contribute to the development of multilateral cooperation with the countries of the Middle East and North Africa,” said Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko.

The International Center for the Reproduction and Preservation of Rare Species of Large Birds of Prey is located on the territory of the Milkovsky District of the Kamchatka Territory. The total area of the center will be up to 300 hectares.

“I would like to note that the development of ecological tourism in our country, the preservation of ecosystems is one of the priorities of the work of the United Russia party. This was one of the most popular wishes of our citizens when we formed the people’s program of the party, with which we went to the elections in the fall of 2021. For the first time, the project for the construction of a falconry center was presented at the Eastern Economic Forum in 2019, and today the nursery has received the first breeding stock. In addition to preserving biodiversity and restoring the population of birds of rare predatory breeds, the center’s goal is also to counter the poaching of falcons, which in many ways has caused a sharp decline in the population. This project will be a real breakthrough for the development of ecotourism and will certainly give impetus to the region. First of all, this initiative will contribute to the development of the tourism and transport infrastructure of the Russian regions, which is an important element of the people’s program of United Russia in terms of ecology,” said Dmitry Kobylkin, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

According to the KRDV, 116 companies with projects worth 174.4 billion rubles are conducting investment activities in the Kamchatka priority development area, more than 11.3 thousand jobs are being created. Of these, 27 residents have implemented the declared projects. Over 23.3 billion rubles of investments have been invested, more than 6 thousand jobs have been created.

“The development of ecological tourism, ecological awareness and approach of both tourists and tourism organizers is associated with the successful implementation of green projects in Kamchatka. These are the School of Nature Defenders, which is aimed at developing a volunteer movement in the protection, arrangement of protected areas and environmental education, and a project to create a tourist and recreational cluster “Reserved Kamchatka: the land of people, volcanoes and salmon” in the south of the peninsula in order to relieve the impact on Lake Kurilskoye and development of territories adjacent to protected areas. Also our educational and scientific center of green technologies “Oikumena” and a locomotive project for the development of the tourist and recreational cluster “Park “Three Volcanoes””. Definitely a green strategy is more relevant than ever for our region and is a key one for our region,” said Vladimir Solodov, Governor of the Kamchatka Territory.
