All housing under construction is equipped with smoke detectors – this mandatory requirement has been in effect since March last year.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia initiated a requirement to equip already operated residential buildings of any number of storeys with detectors. At present, the relevant amendments to the Rules of the fire regime in the Russian Federation are undergoing the necessary approvals.

According to experts, almost 80% of all man-made fires occur in private residential buildings. Often the causes of fires are careless handling of fire, malfunction of household electric heating devices, as well as the use of handicraft heaters.

In the early stages of a fire, intense smoke emission begins and only then a flame develops. Fire detectors are triggered by smoke, thus increasing the chances of rescue. It is better to install them in places where there is a risk of fire: near stoves, gas boilers. Fire detectors should be equipped with housing, baths, summer kitchens and other buildings for which the threat of fire is relevant. Such systems can provide reliable protection not only for housing, but also for industrial, warehouse, office premises.

This year, the Kursk region is implementing a pilot project for remote monitoring of fires in housing. Today the system is installed in 150 households of the “risk group” in the Shchigrovsky district. Smoke detectors transmit a signal via cellular communication channels to a single duty dispatch service. The dispatcher’s computer displays data from all sensors installed in the houses. When the detector is triggered, the system signals in red about the danger, in parallel, the signal is sent to the mobile phone of the head of the village council. Emergency response services are quickly dispatched to the scene of the fire. The whole process takes a matter of seconds. This year, it is planned to install such systems in another 150 households of Kursk people in need of social support.

So, since the beginning of the year, more than two thousand fire detectors have been installed in the Novosibirsk Region, almost half of them with a GSM module. Thanks to such systems, residents were saved from fire and smoke in four cases.

Free housing equipment for certain groups of the population has been implemented in our country since 2018 as part of targeted programs at various levels. Since that time, with the participation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, over 534 thousand fire detectors have been installed as social support.
