Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov congratulated Russians on the Day of Russian Science.

By the decision of the President, the year 2021 declared the Year of Science and Technology will be the beginning of the Scientific Decade.

The UN General Assembly has proclaimed 2022 as the International Year of the Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development.

“Science Day is a relatively young holiday, but the memorable date itself has rich historical roots and is closely connected with the formation of the Russian scientific school and the laying of a solid foundation for the state scientific and educational infrastructure.

Russia has always been famous for the great names of scientists in various fields. Today, we are just as proud of the achievements of modern research teams and institutions. Talent, enthusiasm, responsible attitude to work and patriotism are what distinguishes a Russian scientist, for whom the Government seeks to create all the conditions for effective work.

By decision of the President, last year was declared the Year of Science and Technology. The Russian government paid special attention to supporting researchers. Popularization of science among children and youth, bright scientific discoveries and systematic work on the formation of a new architecture for managing the industry are the main backlogs of the past year, which will be continued within the framework of the Decade of Science.

In 2022, we launched a new state program for the scientific and technological development of Russia, the center of which is a scientist.

Our main task is to provide researchers with the necessary resources, involve the younger generation in this area, and establish a high-quality connection between science and business so that the economy of our country flourishes. And then we will be able to ensure Russia’s scientific and technological leadership on the world stage. I congratulate all those involved on their professional holiday – energy, bold projects and their successful implementation for the benefit of the country,” Dmitry Chernyshenko stressed.

According to him, special attention is paid today to updating the instrumentation base of scientific and educational organizations. In 2022, 205 universities and research institutes will receive 11.8 billion rubles for these purposes. This is almost 4 billion more than last year. Of these, 2.5 billion rubles will be directed to the purchase of domestically produced devices. To increase the efficiency and convenience of the work of researchers, this year the Science and Innovations domain will be launched on the GosTech platform. It will reduce the bureaucratic burden on scientists, ensure the protection of scientific results and access to the existing database.

Equally important are the issues of grant support, the issuance of housing certificates and decent wages.

“I want to sincerely congratulate scientists and everyone involved in the field of research and development on the Day of Russian Science! Thank you for your energy and wisdom, for the courage of scientific research, for believing in your calling. And first of all, for the results that you achieve. We are justifiably proud of the unique discoveries of Russian scientists. For our country, science has always been something more than a sphere of activity. For Russia, science is a national pride, it is our common culture, a state of mind,” said Valery Falkov.

The minister added that young scientists (aged 30 to 39) are the largest group of researchers.

“It is fundamentally important for us to involve young people in scientific activities. It is necessary to create comfortable conditions for the development of young talents, to show ambitious children the prospects for self-realization in science. In recent years, we have financed and opened about 500 youth laboratories on the basis of scientific institutes and universities. At the same time, two-thirds of the employees in each of them are researchers under the age of 39 years. Until 2024, another 400 youth laboratories are to be created,” the head of the department said.

The Day of Russian Science was established by a decree of the President of Russia in 1999. It is dedicated to the day of foundation of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
