February 9 marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of the State Historical Museum.

Dear friends!

Congratulations on the 150th anniversary of your famous museum.

In 1872, with the highest permission of Emperor Alexander II, a unique museum was founded – the custodian of the history and culture of Russia.

Outstanding scientists, archaeologists, artists, architects, philanthropists, ordinary employees, talented, purposeful people, real devotees stood at the origins of its creation.

The majestic building of the Imperial Museum adorned Red Square, harmoniously fitting into the architectural appearance of the Kremlin. Rich expositions are located in spacious halls decorated by Vasnetsov and Aivazovsky, Serov and Repin. Over the centuries, the museum has experienced many events. His work did not stop during the Great Patriotic War, materials were collected, exhibitions were held, lectures were given. And subsequently he managed to restore his original appearance and expand the exhibition space with the help of specialists and restorers.

Today, the State Historical Museum is one of the largest not only in our country, but also in the world, a recognized cultural, educational and educational center. The unique complex also includes the Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812, the chambers of the Romanov boyars in Zaryadye, the Pokrovsky Cathedral, and the Artillery Yard. The museum’s collections are constantly replenished, numbering tens of thousands of exhibits: monuments of archeology, numismatics, weapons, works of fine and decorative art. The expositions tell about the formation and development of the Fatherland from ancient times to the present day. Each item invites visitors to make a fascinating journey through time, to learn the centuries-old history of our state.

On this significant day, I want to express my gratitude to the staff of the State Historical Museum for their professionalism, the preservation of unique monuments of history and culture, and dedication to their work. And wish you further success, new interesting projects, prosperity and all the best.

M. Mishustin
