Design decision

In order not to harm the ecosystem, the activities will be partially carried out manually, with minimal involvement of heavy equipment.

In the natural and historical park “Pokrovskoe-Streshnevo”, engineering preparations for measures to preserve and restore the territory have begun. Work began in the area of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Ivankovsky Ponds and at the section of the Nikolsky Dead End opposite the Underwater Club of the CSK VMF. Workers have fenced off work areas. They conduct topographic surveys, remove debris and protect tree trunks from possible damage.

“Specialists have begun dismantling road surfaces and arranging trenches for laying engineering networks and communications – electric lighting, water supply, communication networks. Due to the nature of the area and to minimize the impact on the existing ecosystem of the park, trenches are laid under the paths. The work is partially carried out using a horizontal directional drilling rig, as well as manually, with minimal involvement of heavy equipment. During work along the paths, dead and fallen trees will be removed for the safety of vacationers. All this must be done before proceeding with the construction of new paths, sports and playgrounds, pavilions and other infrastructure facilities of the park,” said

Sergei Melnikov, Deputy Head Department of capital repairs of Moscow.

There are no plans to close the entire park yet: most of it is open for walking. Transit routes have been organized for residents, schemes with the designation of bypass routes will be installed at the main entrances to the park.

Comfortable recreation areas and outdoor sports: Muscovites voted for the improvement of the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo park

Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo needs work to maintain natural diversity and preserve cultural heritage. The park is visited by a large number of citizens, but the layout does not allow everyone to choose their own route for walking. Because of this, conflicts occur between cyclists and parents with children, lovers of solitude and pet owners. There is no clear navigation in the park, there are not enough children’s and sports grounds, and those that already exist are outdated. In the evening the area is poorly lit.

Today’s park is a former household property. The area where Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo is located has been known since the 16th century. In the 19th century, it became a favorite vacation spot for citizens, even at that time there was a question about the distribution of anthropogenic load. Then Princess Evgenia Shakhovskaya divided it into three functional zones. The first included the surroundings of the manor house with a regular park, greenhouses and parkland on both sides of the road to the neighboring Elizavetino estate. Horseback riding and carriages were not allowed here. Apparently, only the owners of the estate, their close associates and guests used this site.

On the rest of the estate it was possible to walk only with tickets. The second zone was called “Karlsbad” and included the Khimka River with the picturesque hills surrounding it and part of the park behind the Ivankovskaya road. Here it was allowed to fish in the river, to ride boats.

The third zone included part of the park from the road to the village of Nikolskoye to the border with the lands of the village of Vsekhsvyatsky and with the Koptevsky settlements. Here you could pick mushrooms, walk on the grass.

“In our time, no one is going to sell tickets, but there is also a need to distribute the recreational load on the territory. To this end, it is proposed to implement activities on the principle of “five parks in one”. The central part, the natural park, will remain a natural conservation area. They will only repair the existing infrastructure, which is often used by local residents. The main objects for active recreation and entertainment will be located on the periphery, closer to residential buildings and highways. Thus, new places for recreation on the border of the park will take on all the main burden, and the central part will remain protected,” Sergey Melnikov noted.

The Ecological and Educational Park is also a natural area, but, unlike the protected central zone, it is designed for more intensive visits by people. Here, the eco-trail will be put in order and the observation deck will be repaired. At the request of residents, the eco-route will not be extended.

Specialists will tidy up the area around the Tsarevna Lebed spring: instead of trampled down soil, they will make a wooden floor, and a convenient ramp with turnarounds will be used to descend to the water for people with limited mobility. The sliding slope will be stabilized and strengthened, and for the intake of only spring water, a capping will be arranged.

The historical and cultural park will be formed around the temple and the estate ensemble. The master’s house will be restored, according to historical drawings, the layout of the regular garden and the landscape park will be restored. In addition, specialists will restore the historical fence and the red brick corner tower.

On the territory of the temple, it is planned to update the buildings and the playground, equip a new house for the geese living there and a stage for events. The territories in front of the temple and the estate building will be paved with historical-style paving stones.

The area near Ivankovsky Ponds is the most visited. A leisure-recreational park will be created here. In summer and spring, citizens often use the park’s picnic area near the 5th Ivankovsky Pond. Specialists will replace old gazebos here with modern and more comfortable ones, install additional toilets and organize a waste collection system to keep the territory clean.

A boat station will appear in the beach area on the western side of the 5th Ivankovsky Pond: it will be recreated from archival photographs of the 20th century. And on the 6th Ivankovsky pond, wooden walkways with places to relax near the water are being equipped. The walkways built along the remaining ponds will be put in order and unified. New places for playing beach volleyball will be created on sports grounds without increasing the area. The existing playground will be improved.

Infrastructure for sports activities will be mainly concentrated in the northern part of Pokrovsky-Streshnev, along the Leningradskoye Highway, in place of garages that are planned to be demolished. It will not affect the specially protected natural area. This place will become a sports park: there will be a complex of sports grounds with a running track with a special coating, workout grounds, and a skate park. Outdoor tennis courts will be updated. In the central part of the park, chess players will be able to hold tournaments in special pavilions.

During the work, specialists will use environmentally friendly materials: Terra Way coatings and from crushed stone, sand, wood chips, gravel, wooden flooring. It is also planned to restore historical plantings on the territory of the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo estate – larch alleys, ornamental shrubs, parterre flower beds. And in the park, pines, lindens, elms, oaks will be planted – trees that used to grow in these places.
