Last year, the men’s correctional colony – 14 became the record holder for registration of marriage unions – 25 new families were created there.
While serving a sentence, convicts have the opportunity to formalize the relationship. In correctional institutions, marriages take place in special premises of the colony, and convicts serving sentences in colony-settlements and correctional centers can get married directly at the registry office.
– Marriage has a positive effect on the behavior of persons in places of deprivation of liberty. They have more reasons not to violate the internal regulations, a desire is being formed for parole in order to return to their loved ones, – commented Oleksiy Zelensky, deputy head of the department for educational and social work with convicts.
