The overhaul project has already been approved. Specialists will replace track structures, make a heating system and automation of turnouts, as well as lay cable lines.
In the Akademichesky district, a major overhaul of almost six kilometers of tram lines and the reconstruction of engineering communications are planned. The project documentation has already been agreed, the chairman said Moscomexpertiza Valery Leonov.
“Today, a comprehensive program for the modernization of tram traffic is being implemented in the capital. It includes the renewal of rolling stock and the overhaul of tram tracks, as well as the construction of new lines. So, Moscow State Expertise agreed on the overhaul of tram tracks in the Akademichesky district. The project also involves the reconstruction of engineering networks,” he said.
During the work, it is planned to dismantle the existing and lay new tram track structures, as well as make a heating system and automation of turnouts. In addition, cable lines will be laid, drainage boxes of turnouts and pipelines will be replaced, and the mouths of existing wells will be reconstructed. At the end of the work, the area will be landscaped.
“The overhaul of tram tracks will be carried out on the carriageways of Krzhizhanovsky, Bolshaya Cheryomushkinskaya, Dmitry Ulyanov, Vinokurov and Shvernik streets. It is planned to preserve the passage with a width of at least 3.75 meters in each direction due to the temporary widening of the carriageway,” added Valery Leonov.
During construction work on the site, the maximum speed for motorists will be limited to 40 kilometers per hour and stopping will be prohibited. Pedestrians will be able to use existing sidewalks, walkways and temporary hardwood decking. They also plan to install temporary road signs and apply road markings.
The tram network is being actively developed in the capital; transport is popular with Muscovites. In addition to the reconstruction of infrastructure, the city is updating the rolling stock. So, already more than half of the city’s tram fleet consists of modern and comfortable low-floor trams.
